各抒己见

Origin & Usage

Each (各) sets out (抒) their own (己) view (见). 抒 is to pour out or give voice to — the same character as in 抒情, to express feeling — so the phrase carries the sense of getting something said rather than merely registering a preference. What it names is a mode of discussion in which the whole range of opinion goes on the table before anyone converges, and Chinese uses it in exactly that setting: minutes of meetings, classroom instructions, and the sentence a chair says to open the floor. It is neutral about whether agreement follows, and often it does not.
