Origin & Usage

The heart (心) finding it sweet (甘) and the feelings (情) willing (愿). All four characters push the same way, and the insistence is deliberate: the phrase exists to rule out the readings otherwise available — duty, pressure, resignation, obligation quietly resented. What it asserts is that the person would choose it again. Sacrifice most of all, where the question of willingness actually arises, and it is what somebody says to shut down sympathy they do not want.
