The origin story dates back to the Spring and Autumn period, involving the ruler Qi Huan Gong (齐桓公) of the State of Qi. He had a fondness for wearing purple clothes, which led his ministers and eventually the citizens to imitate him, causing a surge in the price of purple garments. Concerned about this trend, Qi Huan Gong's advisor, Guan Zhong (管仲), suggested that he stop wearing purple and express disdain for it. As a result, the trend quickly reversed.
