Chinese Mythology · God / Legendary Figure
二郎神 · Èrláng Shén
The three-eyed god whose truth-seeing eye pierces any disguise.
二郎神
A third, truth-seeing eye in the middle of his forehead marks out Erlang Shen, a warrior deity shown as a handsome young man with a three-pointed, double-bladed glaive and a loyal Roaring Celestial Dog at his side. In later tradition he is identified as Yang Jian, nephew of the Jade Emperor. That third eye sees through any disguise or transformation.
In Journey to the West he is sent to capture Sun Wukong and fights him to a standstill — his heavenly eye catching through every shape Wukong takes.
Rising fast in Western awareness as a secret superboss ("The Sacred Divinity") in Black Myth: Wukong.
